Looking In

Dustin Goes Fishing

When Dustin starts to wishing, His
Thoughts are all on fishing.

He grabs his little pole, in hopes
That dad will go

It's off to papaws pond, where he
And dad can bond.

In hopes to catch a fish, that measures
To his wish.

He laughs and claps his hands, while
smiling to his fans,

When Dustin starts to wishing, and
Gets to go fishing.

Taking The Chance

Should I tell her should I dare,
If I do will she care.
Should I take the chance and let her know,
If I do will she love me or just say "so".
If I give her my heart will it break,
Is that a chance I just have to take?
I do not know what to do,
But I know I am in love with you.

Presence Of An Angel

I feel you next to me
Your presence is missing
It is the hardest thing without you
The angel I need I couldn't find
Then one night I felt his presence
His body next to mine is warm
He kisses me on the forehead
He whispers in my ear
Little sayings I can cherish forever
Now I feel whole inside with him next to me
He wraps me in his wings
"Angel take me with you"
We fly off into the sun setting over an ocean
I look up at him
I stare in his eyes
I see stars gleaming bright looking back at me
Then I awake and I felt the presence not there next to me
I close my eyes and the angel was there
He tells me "He is always going to be here"
"In my heart and in my dreams"
"I will never leave as long as you believe."

Love

I celebrate the day
I met a special boy.
He is wonderful and great!
I hope we will go on a date!

When he smiles
His eyes twinkle like the stars,
But sometimes he has fire in them,
That's when I go far.

I never felt these feelings before,
But then HE comes in my life.
Now I noticed something new.
I was in love at first sight!

Your Special Reason

You're on this earth, for all the right reasons,
God put you here, to live in all seasons.

You are not worthless, but special instead, God
Gave you knowledge, no matter what's said.

It takes time to grow, and sort and sort all things
Out, so look to the future, and deal with your doubt.

And do not forget, that God put you here, and knowing
Just that, will drive away fear.

The Corner of My Heart

In the corner of my heart, there is happiness and sadness.
In the corner of my heart, there is confusion and madness.
In the corner of my heart, there is love and joy.
In the corner of my heart, there is hope for every girl and boy.
In the corner of my heart, there is honor and a need to be brave.
In the corner of my heart, there is faith and a Savior that has a need to save.
In the corner of my heart, there is family and friends.
In the corner of my heart, there is holiness that never ends.
In the corner of my heart, there is faith and doubt.
In the corner of my heart, there is a victorious shout.
In the corner of my heart, there is love so true.
In the corner of my heart, there is YOU!

- Melissa DeMiglio, age 8

I Hope

I hope to make it big
That way I can wear a wig
And go fishing with a jig

I hope to grow tall
That way I can look over a wall
And see the kid who takes my ball

I hope to get real strong
And get a paycheck that is long
And never do anything wrong

As long as I work real hard
I will reach my goals I hope

City Layout

God knows I am full of flaws,
holes as big as New York City
and pores like manholes' eyes.
here, my procrastination
over there, my stubborn will
and far in the distance,
my bruised skin of defeat,
a brown and molding orange
withering around the cloves.

it was only a matter of time
before I stepped too wide
and fell through
to the underground avenue
they wanted under Broadway,
before the Astors stepped in
and declared it would weaken
all of the overlay.

I was taken as plans were alive
in the drawing rooms of those makers
who looked to build a second city,
singular in its appeal,
and thus was trapped
when they saw a new road, untried,
just couldn't be forged
underneath the tender
skin of the streets.

I stare up at my flaws,
out of eyes that are sewers
and ears that are intersections
and see my shadow slant upon the sky,
and hear the earth heave above my head
as it sighs for its foundation
and the second chances
that could have been built below,
and gaze up on oceans
that I am not allowed of.

YO SOY LA NIN~A MAS BONITA DEL BARRIO,
Y COMO SOY MAROMERA, ALGUNAS VECES ME CAIGO,
NUNCA IMAGINE UNA CANCION DE GRANDE,
YO NIN~A NIN~A Y LUS ZUNZUNES VOLANDO
LOS ZUNZUNES SALTAN CONTENTOS
PORQUE EN SU CASA TODO ES MUY BUENO
Y YO MIS CUATRO AN~OS LOS HE PASADO CONTENTA,
MIS COLORES RESALTAN DE ALEGRIA,
YO ME AMO YO MISMA
Y QUIERO JUGAR EN EL AMOR Y LA FELICIDAD
LOS ZUNZUNES BUSCAN AGRESIVOS UNAS BUENAS FLORES
Y COMO EL AMOR ES UNA ROSA
LOS ZUZNZUNES SE ENAMORAN DE LAS ROSAS

- Cristina Chavez Chong, age 6, Cuba, 1997

(Translation:
I am the prettiest girl in the neighborhood,
And because am a tomboy, sometime I fall,
Never imagine a song when grown up,
I girl girl and the humming-birds flying
The humming-birds jump happy
because in their home everything is good
And I my four years have been very happy,
My colors come out of joy
I love my self
I want to play in the love and the happiness
The hummingbirds look aggressive some good flowers
And because love is a rose
The humming-birds fall in love with the roses)

LAS FLORES BLANCAS SON,
LAS FLORES TAMBIEN AMARILLAS
HAY ALGUNAS VENENOSAS
Y OTRAS ESTRAN~OSAS
SI TU ME DICES UNA, YO TE DIGO OTRA
Y SI TU SABES LO QUE ES LLUVIA, TE DARE UNA GOTICA
EL SOL-NATURALEZA
LA LLUVIA-NATURALEZA,
SON LINDAS COSITAS LAS QUE DAN UN AMOR
Y SI QUIERES ALGO DILO,
QUE TODO TIENE UN FIN,
TU PUEDES SER TAN GRANDE COMO EL,
O POETISA COMO YO

- Cristina Chavez Chong, age 6, Cuba, 1997

(Translation:
The flowers white are,
The flowers also yellow
Some are poisons
And others strangeness
If you tell me one, I tell you another
And if you know what is the rain, I give you a little drop
The sun-nature
The rain-nature
There are beautiful things what love gives
And if you want something say it,
Everything has an end,
You can be as big as he is,
Poetess like me)

SI TU VIDA VIVE EN ROSAS,
LA MIA VIVE EN ESPINAS,
LOS DOS UNIREMOS UN FLORAL,
QUE DARA A CONOCERTE MEJOR
- Cristina Chavez Chong, age 6, Cuba, 1998

(Translation:
If your life lives in roses,
Mine lives in thorns
Both will join in a floral,
That will make me know you better)

It's All About Attitude

It’s all about attitude,
About what you think you can do.
It’s all about wanting to,
That’s all up to you!

It’s not how hard will it be,
To accomplish success.
It’s how hard are you willing,
To work at the task?

It’s not how far behind,
You may feel that you are.
It’s never too late,
To reach for your star!

It’s not how many obstacles,
Stand in your way.
It’s not what others think you can do,
It’s what do you say?

It’s not how long will it take,
To get to the top.
It’s how much effort will you give,
Before you give up and stop!

It’s not others’ opinions about,
Your aptitude.
Your success depends, only,
On your Attitude!

I'm Learning From You

I’m following in your footsteps,
To learn about life!
You say it’s wrong to hit my girlfriend,
And yet you beat up your wife!

You say, "don’t drink and drive
It might cause someone to die."
Didn’t Mom bail you out of jail,
Because you were caught D.U.I.?

You tell me it’s wrong to waste my time,
Partying with my friends.
But you leave home on Friday night,
And don’t come home the whole weekend!

You say I must be honest,
And not take things that are not mine.
But, I saw you take the neighbor’s tools,
And you thought that was fine.

You really are a piece of work,
I’ve learned so much from you!
When I point out, you don’t do what you say,
You say, "do as I say, not as I do!"

Why should I be any different,
You seem to be having fun!
You’ve heard that old saying,
"Like Father, Like Son!"

So if I fail at life,
I can’t be to blame.
The example you set for me
Is my claim to fame.

If you think I should be different,
Then you best clean up your act.
Because when everything goes wrong,
I’ll blame you and that’s a fact!

Daddy Forgets My Name

My daddy calls me sweetie pie.
He calls me honey bunny.
He also calls me poopsie,
which I think is kind of funny.

My daddy calls me sugarplum,
and also sleepyhead.
My silly dad forgets my name
when he tucks me into bed.
