My Name Is Cocaine I have made a lot of criminals very rich, Some have been murdered and found in a ditch. Better than diamonds, better than gold, Use me just once, you too will be sold. I'll make a student forget his books, I'll make a model lose her looks. I'll take your rent money and you'll be evicted I'll take your babies and they'll be addicted. I'll make you kill, rob and steal, Is this the way you want to feel? I've destroyed some actors and even a hero, I'll make your bank account drop down to zero. Now you know me, what will you do? You'll have to decide, it's all up to you. Listen up and listen well, When you go with cocaine you are headed for Hell!!!!!! The End - David M., age 12 Mr. Chickoozi Mr. Chickoozi was a jolly old man, Although he's never seen a Pepsi can. His birthday falls on an unusual date, But he can't help it, it was his fate. He walked down the street With no shoes on his feet, Wearing a big smile Like the mouth of River Nile. Walking down the road, Mr. Chickoo got bored, He turned to the right, And was out of sight! He examined a warehouse Which accommodated a mouse, But he was not sure Of what he would lure. Up from nowhere came this horrible beast, Who was waiting for a scrumptious feast. But Mr. Chickoo, as cool as can be, Said, "You're better than me!" The bewildered thing, Who couldn't even fling, Inquired, "In what?" Getting wild and hot. Mr. Chickoozi in his merriest mood, Called out, "Hey magnificent dude! Your acting is neat, But don't you feel the heat?" Mr. Chickoo considered the dreadful beast; (Who was about to make him the feast) As a splendid performer doing an excellent job, In costumes and make-up: not a horrible mob! But Mr. Chickoo made a big mistake, In thinking that the monster was fake. And so, the monster fulfilled his wish; And turned Mr Chickoozi into a wonderful dish! - Insiyah Amiruddeen, age 13, Colombo, Sri Lanka Birds in My Backyard In my backyard, I see, The woodpecker pecking at a tree. The robin soaring, swift and light, The owl hooting through the night. The blackbird picking at the corn, The geese honking like a bicycle horn. The sparrow chirping, cheep cheep cheep, The housefinch hardly makes a peep. But the one bird that I do not see, Is the eagle, so swift and free. With his smooth white head and long brown wings, He is the finder of many things. - Gretchen Smith, age 10, 1996 Two Little Kittens Two little kittens wearing mittens, Sitting on the wall. One named Peter and one named Paul. One went away and the other one stayed. Peter went away, and Paul came back. Peter came back and Percy came in, So there were three little kittens wearing mittens Sitting on the wall. - Kamya K Buch, Age 6 years, Lincolnshire, UK, October 1998 Jack A. The donkey is an ani-mule Who won't put up with ridi-cule. His temper's short and, as a rule, He's seldom very tame, Especially if he's called Old Zack Or Shorty Horse or Prickleback. And if, of course, you call him Jack, Don't mention his last name. - Roula Daher Alarab, age 14, Illinois A Starry Night We float amoung the clouds all day, I drift about the stars from planet to planet I say my love, let's wish upon the stars. And she says, Then as light breaks down we will float back down toward our Cloud Kingdom. And wait for for another starry night to come. Wait with me please dear. If you go I fear I will break into tear. So you go my love? - David, age 15 Seasons Winter, Summer, Spring & Fall Those are the seasons to us all. Where the sun & the moon melts the sky. And the snow covers the trees up high. Where ice freezes the world. And fall covers the earth with leaves. When you can feel the summer's breeze. When earth goes to bed. And spring is born. The seasons will change again & again. - Emily Newsome, 1998 To Be Frightened To be frightened is being locked up alone in a dark room, Hearing the window bang in the middle of the night, Going to school with unfinished homework, Studying late the day before the exam, Hearing a scream in the dark of someone who is frightened too, Being awoken with a ‘boo!’ Being chased by a dog running like the wind, Hearing a cat cry in the night, To be frightened is being locked up alone in a dark room. - K. Sravana Reddy, age 13 years, Bangalore, India Pretty Little Flowers Once there was a row of pretty little flowers, with shiny and colourful petals. There were lots of different colours and some of them were pink, red and yellow and scarlet and blue and lots of other brilliant colours too. - Kamya Buch, age 6, Lincoln, UK The Balloon A child, a boy, sits all alone He has no friends, family or home. He has nothing to do but wait and wait Hopeful that some day he will meet his fate. Then one day his wish came true, Something in the sky, bright bright blue. He jumped up straight on to his feet, "Wow" he exclaimed this is neat. As it fell slowly to the ground, He felt a prize he has found. A balloon, a bright blue balloon, He felt certain his luck will be soon. Just then a little small boy, came to him and said "my toy!" He handed it to the boy and said here's your toy. With a sad look on his face, the boy sat and played with his only toy...a shoelace. The little boy returned the other boy yearned. He handed the balloon to him with such great joy He'll never forget the balloon or the boy. He has a friend he will never forget The day the boy his fate he met. - Kim, age 17 Taylor I like to hug you and squeeze you so very tight, When I walk around you are always in sight. Whenever I say, "Wanna go play ball?" You jump and bark but that's not all. I call you lots of silly names, When we part it just won't be the same. - Karly, PA What Is Yellow Is yellow the feeling of a hot summer day Or is it the color of the glistening hay? Yellow can by a cold glass of fresh lemonade Or can it be the sound of children at play? Yellow reminds me of a butterfly on a newly bloomed Rose. Yellow can be a newly bloomed Buttercup. Yellow gives everyone a warm feeling on a cold winter day. Yellow makes all of us cheer up with its new bright color. Yellow is everywhere, all at one time. - Johnathan McMinn, age 9 Television It is a very lively creature, But don’t let its cheerfulness deceive you! With its charming ways and enticing smile, It can sneak out a very sharp claw, And hurt you, smiling sweetly all the while. Stay near its cage for some time, it’s all right, It can perform all sorts of amazing stunts, But you must be careful, and we told you why. Don’t watch it for too long, there are other animals on display, And you’d be better off if you just stayed away! - K. Sravana Reddy, age 13 years, Bangalore, India. Hugs, Kisses and Flowers If a little girl gives you a hug Then just act surprised It's just the way they are You can see it in their eyes If a little girl gives you a kiss Then this is very nice The only thing to make it better Would be if she kissed you twice But if a little girl gives you flowers There is nothing you can say So just take them gently from her hand And slowly walk away - William Cazalas A High Fly Ball Out on the field A battle was brewing While in the dugout The coaches were stewing With runners on base And needing a run The batter hit the ball She hit it a ton Straight towards Kristina She never moved an inch Did she even see the ball? Lord give her a pinch She raised her hands As if to pray Let me catch that old ball I know she would say Down came that ball Like a white streak Would it land in her glove? Or behind her ten feet We all got our answer When the girls began to shout Kristina caught that old ball It was the third out Now Kristina is only Four feet tall But she hit a home run And caught a fly ball - William Cazalas Little Girls Make Me Cry Every child is beautiful No matter what you say I know it's true because I meet them every day But little girls are special They don't even have to try Just a please and thank you Is enough to make you cry I received a note Just the other day It said simply thank you In a very special way Little did you know When you signed "your friend" That you would make The tears begin I know I'm getting soft Because just the other night Two girls ran up to me And hugged me very tight When you ran off to play I breathed a little sigh Because I know it's very true Little girls always make me cry There was a little girl Who liked to laugh and play But she lost her dad And had to move away And then there was This little tyke Who came but to my knee I gave to her a gift A kiss she gave to me And when on her birthday A present I did give For her to keep forever Much longer than I will live And when on snowy wings From high above I'll watch the children laugh and play And give the gift of love. - William Cazalas | |
